If you listen to the CD you'll notice the high note in the background, it's an F#
and an A played on the 1st string (frets 2 and 5). Jon recorded this as an overdub and
put it in the background. When you're playing alone you can overcome this by putting
the 2 together. Just play the open D or Gmaj7 and add the A note (See Chords at bottom).
