Dust On The Snow

I met an old man one morning, in an all night coffee shop

he looked about as old as time and, the folks around there called him pop

He said down beside me and winked one eye and grinned

Said he thought he knew me the minute I came in

he said I looked like his son, but said that couldn't be, you see he said he died in the summer 
of 43

And then he got to talking about time and how we waste it and he said

Time goes by so quickly we dont notice

the Days they come and then they go

Day by Day they come until its over

and then they vanish like the dust upon the snow

Well he looked at me as if he wanted to know if I knew what he meant about the dust upon the 
snow

so I smiled and said i did but I never though about time

I was young and had more than that on my mind

besides I said I just stopped in for a quick cup

and im in a hurry because downtown a blondes going to keep me up

he looked at me and with a whisper said I understand,

you see I was young once, I havent always been an old man

we talked until I had my coffe down and I said so long and hurried off to town

well tonight I thought I would drop in to that coffee shop

because I wanted to spend a little more time with old Pop

and then the waitress told me that just 2 weeks

ago the old man went outside and just kinda fell over in the snow

and I remember that old man so well

its hard to thing he's dead when just two weeks ago today sat down beside me and said
